In cognitive science and neuropsychology, executive functions are a set of cognitive processes that are necessary for the cognitive control of behavior: selecting and successfully monitoring behaviors that facilitate the attainment of chosen goals.Executive function refers to skills that help us focus, plan, prioritize, work toward goals, self-regulate behaviors and emotions, adapt to new and unexpected situations, and ultimately engage in abstract thinking and planning. In children and teens with ADHD you may think they’re lazy when in fact they are struggling to overcome differences in the way that their nervous system handles input. Executive Functioning Coaches meet regularly with clients to work on various areas that cause frustration in home, school and social situations. Each session is tailored to the individual needs and goals of the client.
